“Modified, customised, rustified!” – to mark the season 2 premier of Rusty Rivets which hits the airwaves on Monday 23rd April, I’ve teamed up with Nick Jr. to give one lucky winner the chance to get their hands on the Rusty Rivets Rivet Lab Playset (RRP. £44.99). To enter the giveaway, simply login to Rafflecopter below and follow the instructions. But first, here’s a bit of information about the show and the prize:
Rusty is a young inventor and mechanic who uses his skills and imagination to turn spare parts into gadgets at his recycling yard laboratory. Along with his friend Ruby, robotic dinosaur Botasaur and team of customised robots called the Bits, they often have to repurpose old parts to create personalised contraptions to solve problems in their hometown of Sparkton Hills.
You can catch the new season on Monday 23rd April at 4.30pm on Nick Jr. In the first episode – “Rusty’s Mobile Rivet Lab” – when Ranger Anna crash lands her planes in the distant Savannah, Rusty and Ruby realise they need a new vehicle that can not only travel the distance but aid them in their builds.
Now onto the giveaway prize – the very cool Rivet Lab Playset, which we’ve also had the pleasure of playing with recently. Just like on the show, Rusty’s headquarters transforms – from a toolbox, to a fully expanded inventors’ lab, and back again. The playset features lights and sounds from the show, two expanding sides, moving lifts, a door, a hatch and is set over two levels.
The set also comes with over 20 separate pieces – this includes a figure of Rusty himself, a grabbing crane, a blaster with projectile, multiple pieces that can be put together to create a robot and more. These different pieces cleverly interlock together to build new things and can then be attached to one of the many holes on the actual playset. Just like Rusty, this allows your kid to “combine it and design it”.
This gives endless play possibilities when it comes to designing, building and creating. They could use their imagination to build wacky inventions for Rusty to save the day or recreate their favourite moments from the show. The crane could be used to grab hold of items Rusty needs and move them into place. The moving lift can be used to take Rusty between the floors and the blaster could be used to fight off the robot.
One of L’s favourite things to do is build ‘things’ with the different components, like the wheels, arms, blaster, chair, grabber and satellite dish. I’ll often go to tidy up and find that she’s managed to stick most of the pieces together to create some kind of scary robotic monster, eccentric mode of transport or a piece of modern art that wouldn’t look out of place in a gallery.
I’ve been really impressed with this playset. It’s well made, very closely resembles the show and has provided L – and me – with hours of fun. Something I particularly like is that your kid can not only play ‘normally’, e.g. a figure exploring his lab and communicating with others, but the interlocking nature of the toys provides (a) an additional stimulus for imaginative play and (b) taps into the core ethos of the show, which is all about inventing, creating and building.
As a dad with a house full of toys and very little space, something else I like is that the playset folds up when it’s no longer being played with. Each of the pieces go inside, the sides fold in to become the front, then the lid goes down to create an enclosed toolbox’. Not only does this make it easier to store, but it also comes in handy when taking it somewhere to play with, e.g. the grandparents’.
What’s more, the playset can also be extended with the purchase of additional Rusty Rivets Build Me Rivet System sets. They all work together to allow your kid to build creations featured on the show or to allow unique designs to be constructed. We’ve not purchased any additional sets just yet, but they’ll definitely be considered for the birthday list. The toy will be available from retailers in July.
Just like Rusty and pals, if you can dream it, you can build it with the Rusty Rivets Rivet Lab! If you’d like to be in with the chance of winning one for your child (or yourself – I won’t judge), simply login to Rafflecopter below and complete one, or a combination, of the optional entry options. Good luck and happy comping!
