A quick look at ‘My Shows’ on TIVO and ‘Continue Watching’ on Netflix suggests that I might have a thing for super heroes of both the DC and Marvel variety. The last week alone has seen me watch the continuing super hero crime fighting antics depicted in Legends Of Tomorrow, The Flash, Jessica Jones, Agents Of SHIELD, Gotham, Supergirl and Daredevil.
The missus isn’t a fan of any of this “nonsense”, so that means I have to catch up with these super hero shows as she’s at work when it’s just Toddler L and I in the house. Surprisingly, the sprog does sit on my lap and watch some of these things with me. Although maybe a little younger than the intended target audience, I think it gives her a break from the mundane stuff repeated on CBeebies – although we’ll keep that quiet from Social Services.
A new show that I’ve recently heard about which could be more appropriate for Toddler L is DC Super Hero Girls. This is DC Entertainment’s latest animated series which features iconic comic book characters like Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy and Katana as they navigate all the twists and turns of life at Super Hero High.
At a time when there are many questionable role models available for kids – including characters like the awful Bing Bunny and Tweenies, alongside people like Kim Kardashian – DC Super Hero Girls focuses on more positive attributes like friendship, confidence, courage, strength and fearlessness, all within the context of growing up in high school. If you’ve not seen the new cartoon before, you can “get your cape on” and check it out below or on the DC Super Hero Girls YouTube channel.
You can also check out the DC Super Hero Girls website where your kids can play games, download free printable activities and have even more crime-fighting fun.
To celebrate the launch of the Super Hero Girls cartoon, DC are running a giveaway to win 1 of 3 £100 VISA gift cards. To be in with a chance of winning, enter via Rafflecopter below.
N.B. This is a collaborative post written with DC Superhero Girls, however I am not involved in running the giveaway, only helping to promote it.
