It’s giveaway time! I’ve teamed up with Mainline Menswear in the run up to Father’s Day to offer one lucky winner the chance to get their hands on a £100 gift certificate to spend on clothing and accessories on their website. To enter the giveaway, simply login to Rafflecopter below and follow the instructions.
Before that, let me tell you a bit about Mainline Menswear. Having started in 2002 as a small shop in Scarborough, they’ve grown to now offer one of the largest ranges of men’s designer and high street clothes in the UK. They stock over 100 different labels – from BOSS to Adidas to Ralph Lauren – with items suited to different fashions, trends, styles, ages and budgets.
As part of this giveaway, I too was given a gift certificate to spend on their website. I’d not shopped with them before, so was looking forward to seeing what items I could pick up and what the overall online shopping experience would be like.
After heading over to the website on my phone (they also have an app you can download), I began browsing. I found it really simple to get to where I wanted in terms of clothes thanks to the navigation options available, which included browsing by the different brands, the clothing type, their bestselling items and new arrivals.
I chose to browse by brand and was surprised by the number of different labels available, which included the likes of Armani, Diesel, Fred Perry, Gant, Jack Wills, Levi, Nike, Reebok, Superdry, Timberland and Versace, Being someone who hasn’t really changed how they dress for 15 years – and is still a skater / emo at heart – I unsurprisingly honed in on two brand names in particular; Converse and Vans.
Whilst browsing these two brands, I found a selection of different types of clothes, accessories and shoes. Again, I found the website easy to use and was able to sort and filter (size, colour, price etc) to help with the shopping experience.
A useful feature I found was the Fit Finder – an online questionnaire which suggests your best fit based on personal details like your age, height, weight, body shape and fit preference, as well as data on how other people shop. I’ve not seen something like this before – although the Missus says she has – and found it to be a useful way of understanding my size considering I couldn’t try the clothes on.
So what did I decide to go with? Well, I added the following six items to my basket:
- Converse Star Chevron Logo Vest
- Converse Vacation Mode Logo T Shirt
- Converse Star Chevron Logo Jogging Bottoms
- Converse Ripstop Crew Neck Sweatshirt
- Gant Five Pack Stretch Boxer Trunks
- Vans Classic Slip On Checkboard Trainers
As the order was over £150, I was given free Next Working Day UK delivery which was a nice bonus. I’d been provided with an online gift certificate, so entered this when prompted at the payment stage, then entered my card details to pay the few quid excess. The process had been quick, easy and I liked how I wasn’t forced to create an online account as I could do all of this as a guest.
I placed the order on Tuesday night and received the confirmation via email. I was then contacted first thing on Wednesday morning to let me know that the Gant boxer shorts were no longer in stock – unsurprising as they were the last ones and I assume someone beat me to it – and that I’d need to contact them to discuss.
I nipped onto their online chat and spoke to a Customer Advisor to see whether I could replace the item with the same item in a different colour. Within a few minutes, the stock levels had been checked, my order had been updated and I received another email. Despite the ‘issue’, it had been dealt with speedily and in a friendly way.
By noon on Thursday, I’d taken delivery of the package (via DPD) and eagerly opened it to see the goodies inside. As you’d expect, everything was nicely folded and packed separately within the main bag. The shoes and boxer shorts came in their own boxes.
I was really happy with my choices and found everything to be as expected. Unfortunately, three of the items – the vest, t-shirt and jumper – were a bit on the big side. I usually find that I’m somewhere between Small and Medium, so, depending on the brand, often find that a Small is too small and a Medium is too big. It’s all a bit of guess work.
With that in mind, I decided to exchange these three items for the smaller size. As before, I found the return / exchange process outlined on the website to be simple. This involved writing on the delivery slip the items I wanted exchanging, packaging it up, using Royal Mail Tracked to create and print a label at home, then taking it to the Post Office. The only improvement could be if they offered free returns rather than the standard price of £3.99.
A few days later, my new package arrived with the three new items, which I’m pleased to report, were a much better fit. I’ve obviously been wearing the items recently and find them to be comfortable, well made and nicely designed, which is what I’d expect of brands such as Converse, Vans and Gant.
As is the stay-at-home dad dress code, the Converse logo t-shirt and Converse jogging bottoms fit seamlessly into my wardrobe as they balance practicality with comfort. I also particularly like the slip-on Vans – in fact, I owned this very pair of shoes 10 or so years ago, so it feels like I’ve been reacquainted with an oldie Uni friend!
All in all, I had a very positive experience with Mainline Menswear and will definitely be returning to them in the future. I was impressed with the wide range of brands, the ease of navigating the website, and the speed at which my order, and subsequent exchange, was dealt with.
